The Best Chocolate Chip Banana Bread
In my family, Banana Bread is requested on a weekly basis! I purchase at least two bunches of bananas once a week and each week it never fails, I’m left with two or three bananas that don’t get eaten! What gives?
I don’t know if its the rapid ripening (brown bananas) that detour everyone in the house from eating the last bananas or if the kids just prefer bananas that are more on the yellow side?
Well……..whatever the reason, I’m always one step ahead of the game. I can almost always anticipate my little yellow bananas will be at full ripened-sweet perfection on about day five or six. Once I see those little brown spots popping up I know my little bananas are ready to make the most tasty, chocolaty, banana bread you’ve ever tasted!
Start by mashing 3 ripe bananas
You can mash your bananas with a fork or a hand mixer either will do.
Peel the bananas and add them to the bowl. Using the end of the whisk or a dinner fork, mash them into the batter. Leave the bananas as chunky or as smooth as you prefer. If you prefer an entirely smooth banana bread, mash the bananas separately until no more lumps remain, and then whisk them into the batter.
Now some might like their bananas with only a few browns spots which indicates the bananas are fully ripe. Then there are others who prefer their bananas a bit more on the browner side which ensures you are getting major sweetness and lots and lots of banana flavor for your bread.
Mix the wet and dry ingredients
Next, I mix the white sugar, brown sugar, melted butter, butter milk and eggs until well blended. The butter and banana pair wonderfully together and leaves this Chocolate Chip Banana Bread super moist! Plus, butter makes everything better!
For this Chocolate Chip Banana Bread recipe, I’m using buttermilk which along with the bananas will make the Banana Bread super-moist with a delicate crumb.
Now, as with most recipes mix the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients making sure to end with with the wet ingredients.
The end result will be a smooth silky batter!
Chocolate Chips! Chocolate Chips! How could I forget!?
My boys Begged me NOT to add Nuts to this Banana Bread. Hence, the name “Chocolate Chip Banana Bread” So……. don’t forget to add that half a cup of Chocolate Chips. A half-cup is just enough to add that chocolaty sweet taste without taking away from the banana flavor. Mix it right into your batter saving just a few to sprinkle on top of the filled loaf pan.
